George Strait was born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas. Strait’s father, John Byron Strait, Sr. (1922 – 2013), was a junior high school mathematics teacher and the owner of a cattle ranch. His mother, Doris Jean Couser(1930 – 2010), was a homemaker. Strait has a brother John Jr. (1950–2009) and a sister, Pency.

Strait married his high school sweetheart, Norma, on December 4, 1971. The couple has a daughter: Jenifer (born 1972). Strait served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1975. He was stationed in Hawaii during his service.

Strait began his musical career singing country music with friends in high school and college. He later joined a band called the Ace in the Hole Band, which released its first album in 1977. Strait’s first solo album, Strait Country, was released in 1981.

The album’s first single, “The Fireman”, became one of Strait’s most successful singles, spending six weeks at number one on the Billboard country chart. Strait’s next album, Beyond the Blue Neon, was released in 1989. The album’s first single, “All My Ex’s Live in Texas”, became one of Strait’s signature songs. The album’s second single, “Baby Blue”, peaked at number two on the country chart.

Strait’s next album, Livin’ It Up, was released in 1990. The album’s lead-off single, “All My Ex’s Live in Texas”, became one of his most successful singles. The song reached number one on the country charts and crossed over to the pop charts, peaking at number eight. The album also produced two more number one country hits: “Baby Blue” and “Overnight Male”. George Strait’s popularity began to really take off in the 1990s. He released a string of successful albums, including 1991’s “Pure Country”, which was certified platinum and featured the chart-topping single “I Cross My Heart”. His 1994 album, “Lead On”, was also certified platinum, and produced the hit singles “The Big One”, “You Can’t Make a Heart Love Somebody”, “Lead On” and “Adalida”. In 1996, Strait released the album “Blue Clear Sky”, which was certified 3x platinum and featured the hit singles “Carried Away”, “I Can Still Make Cheyenne”, and “King of the Mountain”. In 1998, Strait released the album “Always Never the Same”, which featured the lead single “One of You” и “I Look at You”. The album also included the Top 10 hits “Write This Down”, “Meanwhile” and “What Do You Say to That”. “Write This Down” earned Strait a CMT Music Awards for Single of the Year.

In 2006, Strait was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2008, Strait released “Troubadour”, which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, making it his first album to debut at number one on that chart. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2009, Strait won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album for “Troubadour”. George Strait continues to tour and release new music, including the album Love Is Everything in 2013 and the single “Let It Go” in 2015.
