Lambert’s self-titled debut album was released in 2001. The album received mixed reviews from critics. In 2002, Miranda Lambert made her first appearance on television on the talent show Nashville Star. She competed as a contestant during the first season of the reality show, where she placed third in the competition. After Nashville Star, Lambert was approached by many record labels but she turned them all down because she wanted to be sure that she had creative control over her music. She eventually signed with Sony Music executive in 2003.
Lambert’s debut studio album, Kerosene, was released on March 15, 2005. The album received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart and selling 40,000 copies within its first week. The album’s lead single, “Kerosene”, was a top 20 hit on the Billboard Country Singles chart. The album debuted at number 8 on both the US Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Top Country Albums chart, selling approximately 66,000 copies in its first week of release. It also produced Lambert’s second consecutive Number One hit on the Hot Country Songs chart in “The House That Built Me”. “Heart Like Mine” and “White Liar” were also released as singles from Revolution, reaching numbers 1 and 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart respectively. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album double platinum.
