About Alejandro Escovedo
Early life
Alejandro Escovedo was born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 13, 1951. His father was a professional musician, and his mother was a homemaker. Alejandro’s musical career began when he was just a teenager. He played in various garage bands before joining the Nuns, a punk rock band based in San Francisco. The Nuns released one album, 1978’s After the Fall, before breaking up.
In the early 1980s, Escovedo formed Rank and File with Chip Kinman of the Dils. Rank and File’s sound blended country music with punk rock, and the band had some success with their 1982 debut album Sundown. However, creative differences between Escovedo and Kinman led to the band’s split in 1983.
Alejandro Escovedo released his first solo album, Gravity, in 1992. The album was a critical success, but it failed to find a large audience. Undeterred, Escovedo continued to make music and tour regularly. His subsequent albums include 1996’s With These Hands, 2001’s A Man Under the Influence, and 2006’s The Boxing Mirror.
Career
In addition to his solo work, Alejandro Escovedo has also been a member of several notable bands. He first gained attention as a member of the punk rock band the Nuns. The Nuns were active from 1976 to 1978 and released one album, The Nuns.
Escovedo then joined Rank and File with Chip Kinman of the Dils.
Escovedo’s next album, 1996’s With These Hands, was more commercially successful and led to him being nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance.
Since then, Alejandro Escovedo has continued to release albums and tour extensively. He has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike for his songwriting and live performances. In 2002, he was inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame.
Alejandro Escovedo is one of the most important figures in the history of rock and roll. His career has spanned four decades, and he shows no signs of slowing down. He is an artist who truly deserves to be called a legend. Thank you, Alejandro Escovedo, for everything.
