About Billy Currington
Personal Life and Musical Career
He was exposed to country music at an early age and would often sing along with his family while they listened to the radio. When he was eight years old, his parents divorced and he went to live with his mother in Rincon, Georgia. It was there that he began to develop a love for baseball and playing the guitar.
Billy Currington started his musical career by singing in talent contests and local clubs. In 2000, he moved to Nashville in hopes of landing a record deal. His big break came when he met songwriter Wyatt Durrette, who helped him secure a contract with Mercury Records Nashville. Currington’s debut album, Billy Currington, was released in 2003. The album’s lead single, “Walk a Little Straighter”, peaked at number eight on the Billboard Country charts.
Billy Currington’s second album, Doin’ Somethin’ Right, was released in 2005. The album’s lead single, “Good Directions”, became his first number one hit on the Country charts. The album’s second single, “Why, Why, Why”, also peaked at number one. In 2006, Currington won the Academy of Country Music award for Top New Male Vocalist.
Currington’s third album, Little Bit of Everything, was released in 2008. The album’s lead single, “Don’t”, became his second number one hit on the Country charts. The album’s second single, “Tangled Up”, also peaked at number one.
In 2010, Currington released his fourth album, Enjoy Yourself. The album’s lead single, “Pretty Good at Drinkin’ Beer”, became his third number one hit on the Country charts.
In 2013, Currington released his fifth album, We Are Tonight. The album’s lead single, “Hey Girl”, became his fourth number one hit on the Country charts.
Currington has released a total of seven studio albums and has had seventeen singles on the Country charts, of which eleven have reached number one.
