About Gary Allan
Gary Allan Herzberg was born and raised in La Mirada, California, to Harley and Mary Herzberg. To ensure that the family would focus on music, Allan’s mother scheduled music lessons for him. By age thirteen, Allan was playing in honky-tonks with his father. After graduating from La Serna High School, Allan began playing in bars in the evenings with his band, The Honky Tonk Wranglers.
Allan has been divorced three times. His first marriage was to country singer-songwriter Tracy Taylor. Allan’s second marriage was to model Danette Day. His third marriage was to Angela Herzberg, who died of suicide. His fourth wife was Molly Martin.
Allan’s debut album, Used Heart for Sale, was released in 1996 on Decca Records. His second album, It Would Be You, was released in 1998 on Decca Records. The title track reached number 23 on the Billboard Country chart. Allan’s third album, Smoke Rings in the Dark, was released in 1999 on Decca Records. The album’s title track reached number 8 on the Billboard Country chart, becoming Allan’s first Top Ten single.
Allan’s fourth album, Alright Guy, was released in 2001. Single “Man to Man,” became his second Number One hit on the Billboard Country chart. The album also included “The One.”
In 2003, Allan’s fifth album, See If I Care, was released. It debuted at Number One on the Billboard Country albums chart, and produced two more Number One hits in “Nothing On but the Radio” and “Tough Little Boys.”
Allan’s sixth album, Tough All Over, was released in 2005. The album’s lead-off single, “Best I Ever Had (The Voice Performance),” was a Number One hit on the country charts. The follow-up single, “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful,” peaked at No. 8. Allan’s seventh studio album, Living Hard, was released in 2007. The album’s lead-off single, “Watching Airplanes,” peaked at No. 3 on the country charts.
Allan’s eighth studio album, Set You Free, was released in 2013. The album’s lead-off single, “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain),” peaked at No. 1 on the Country Airplay charts. In 2021 Allan’s released his tenth album called Ruthless.
