Musical Career
The band’s first album, Less Than Supper (2004), was recorded in Bont’s basement on a budget of $600. The album was self-released, and the band sold copies out of their van at live shows.
In 2005, the band signed with the independent label Big Blue Zoo Records and released their second album, Tuesday Letter (2005). That same year, the band won the Emerging Artist of the Year award at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
In 2007, Greensky Bluegrass released their third album, Live at Bell’s, which was recorded at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The album helped the band gain a wider audience and led to them being booked at larger venues and festivals.
In 2008, the band released their fourth album, Five Interstates. This album marked a change in the band’s sound, as they began to experiment with different genres and influences. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike.
In 2009, the band released their fifth album, All Access Vol. 1. This album was a live recording of the band’s 2008 New Year’s Eve show at The Fillmore in Detroit. The album featured guest appearances by several musicians, including members of The Roots and Umphrey’s McGee.
In 2010, the band released their sixth album, Handguns. This album was recorded in a more traditional studio setting and featured a more polished sound. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike.
In 2014, the band released their seventh album, If Sorrows Swim. This album marked a return to the band’s rootsy sound and featured more traditional bluegrass instrumentation. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike.
In 2016, the band released their eighth album, Shouted, Written Down & Quoted. This album featured a more diverse range of musical styles, including folk, rock, and blues. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike. In 2019, the band released their ninth album, All for Money.
