About Jennifer Nettles

Personal Life

Jennifer Nettles was born on September 12, 1974, in Douglas, Georgia, USA. Graduating from Douglas High School in 1992, she then attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, where she majored in Spanish and Anthropology.

Nettles married Todd Van Sickle in 1998, but the couple divorced in 2007. Nettles began dating Justin Miller in 2008 and the couple got engaged in 2011. They married on November 26, 2011, in a small ceremony at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee. November 2012, Nettles and her husband welcomed their first child.

Musical Beginnings

Nettles always loved singing as a child. She began performing in church, and in community theater. Nettles was also a member of the Clovers & Company performing arts group. Nettles later attended Agnes Scott College, where she majored in Spanish and anthropology. It was during her time at Agnes Scott that Nettles met Kristian Bush. The two began playing music together and eventually formed Sugarland. Sugarland’s follow-up album, Enjoy the Ride, was released in 2006. It featured the hit singles “Want To” and “Everyday America.” The Sugarland was the first Grammy Award nomination for the Best New Artist category.

Sugarland’s next album, titled Love on the Inside, was released in 2008. It included the hit singles “All I Want to Do” and “Already Gone.” The album was certified 2× Platinum by the RIAA. Sugarland went on hiatus in 2012 but announced that they would be reuniting in 2017.

Solo Career

In 2014, Nettles released her debut solo album, That Girl. The album peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and received positive reviews from critics. The lead single, “That Girl,” peaked at number 24 on the Country Airplay chart. Nettles’ second solo album, Playing with Fire, was released in 2016. The album debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and received positive reviews from critics. In 2016, Nettles released her third solo album, To Celebrate Christmas. The album peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Holiday Albums chart and received positive reviews from critics. Always Like New, Nettles’ fourth solo album, was released in 2021. The album was produced by Nettles and has a more country-pop sound than her previous albums. The first single from the album, “I Can Do Hard Things”, peaked at No. 10 on the Country Airplay chart.
