Early Life

Maren Morris was born on April 10, 1990, in Arlington, Texas. Her mother, Kellie Morris, and father, Greg Morris, owned a hair salon. Growing up, Morris was exposed to a variety of music genres including country, pop, rock, and blues. At the age of 12, she began writing her own songs and taught herself how to play guitar.

Personal Life and Career

In July 2017, Morris became engaged to fellow singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd. The couple married on March 24, 2018, in Nashville. On October 29, 2019, Morris announced that she was pregnant with their first child. She gave birth to a son named Hayes Andrew Hurd on March 23, 2020.

In 2002, at the age of 11, Morris began her musical career. She would sing at local events and functions around Arlington, Texas. In 2005, they self-released their first album, Walk On. It consisted of ten songs written by Morris. Her second studio album, All That It Takes, was released in 2007. It featured twelve tracks, all co-written by Morris. Her third album, 2011’s Live Wire, was recorded on the Mozzi Bozzi label.

In 2012, Morris made the move to Nashville, Tennessee. It was there that she would begin her songwriting career. She co-wrote “My Church” with Busbee and Natalie Hemby. The song would eventually be recorded by Morris herself and released as her debut single.” My Church” peaked at number nine on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, making it Morris’ first top-ten hit as a solo artist.

The debut studio album on Morris’ new label, Hero, was released on June 3, 2016. The album’s lead single, “My Church”, peaked at number five on the Hot Country Songs chart. Hero debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album’s second single, “80s Mercedes”, peaked at number 12 on the Country Airplay chart. “I Could Use a Love Song”, the album’s third single, became Morris’ first number one hit as a solo artist when it topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart in November 2017. The album’s fourth single, “Rich”, was released on February 12, 2018.

Morris has won several awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance for “My Church” and the CMA Awards for Best New Artist for “My Church”.

On March 8, 2019, Morris released her second studio album, Girl. The album’s lead single, “GIRL”, peaked at number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in August 2019, becoming Morris’ second number one single on that chart. The album’s second single, “The Bones”, peaked at number one on the Country Airplay chart in November 2019. The album’s third single, “To Hell & Back”, was released to radio on March 30, 2020, and peaked at number 32 on the Country Airplay chart. Album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

On March 25, 2022, Morris released her third major-label album, Humble Quest. The track “Circles Around This Town” reached number 9 on Billboard Country Airplay and number 9 on Hot Country Songs in the United States.
