In 2012, Morris made the move to Nashville, Tennessee. It was there that she would begin her songwriting career. She co-wrote “My Church” with Busbee and Natalie Hemby. The song would eventually be recorded by Morris herself and released as her debut single.” My Church” peaked at number nine on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, making it Morris’ first top-ten hit as a solo artist.

The debut studio album on Morris’ new label, Hero, was released on June 3, 2016. The album’s lead single, “My Church”, peaked at number five on the Hot Country Songs chart. Hero debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album’s second single, “80s Mercedes”, peaked at number 12 on the Country Airplay chart. “I Could Use a Love Song”, the album’s third single, became Morris’ first number one hit as a solo artist when it topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart in November 2017. The album’s fourth single, “Rich”, was released on February 12, 2018.

Morris has won several awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance for “My Church” and the CMA Awards for Best New Artist for “My Church”.
